Virtual Workspaces in the Grid

چکیده
This paper introduces the concept of the virtual workspace, a configurable execution environment that can be used to describe, dynamically deploy, and manage a customizable execution environment in the Grid. We describe workspaces, show how they fit into the Grid architecture, and discuss our initial experiences using this system with applications.

Virtual Cluster Workspaces for Grid Applications
Virtual machines provide a promising platform for computational Grids. By their very nature -virtualization of underlying hardware -they enable instantiation of a new, independently configured guest environment on a host resource. In addition, they offer the benefits of isolation and fine-grain enforcement and, given the ability to serialize their state and migrate, offer increased flexibility ...
متن کاملVirtual workspaces: Achieving quality of service and quality of life in the Grid
By defining standardized protocols for discovering, accessing, monitoring, and managing remote computers, storage systems, networks, and other resources, Grid technologies make it possible—in principle—to allocate resources to applications dynamically, in an on-demand fashion [1]. However, while Grids offer users access to many diverse and powerful resources, they do little to ensure that once ...
متن کاملDeploying HEP Applications Using Xen and Globus Virtual Workspaces
The deployment of HEP applications in heterogeneous grid environments can be challenging because many of the applications are dependent on specific OS versions and have a large number of complex software dependencies. Virtual machine monitors such as Xen could be used to package HEP applications, complete with their execution environments, to run on resources that do not meet their operating sy...
متن کاملHarnessing Virtual Machine Resource Control for Job Management
Virtual machine technology promises important benefits for grid computing and cluster batch job systems, including improved isolation, customizable workspaces, and support for checkpointing and migration. One way to gain these benefits is to “drill holes” in existing batch computing systems; however, we believe these new capabilities warrant a rethinking of the architectures of existing systems...
متن کاملTarget Tracking Based on Virtual Grid in Wireless Sensor Networks
One of the most important and typical application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is target tracking. Although target tracking, can provide benefits for large-scale WSNs and organize them into clusters but tracking a moving target in cluster-based WSNs suffers a boundary problem. The main goal of this paper was to introduce an efficient and novel mobility management protocol namely Target Tr...
